Train Garden

Although I am somewhat successful in growing flowers, food crops, and trees, my greatest gardening challenge is lawns. Thus, when I discovered that G-scale model trains can be permanently installed outside in the yard, we removed the weedy patch in the front yard that we called a lawn and installed a garden train which became operational just in time to be included on the 2018 National Garden Railway Convention tour. From a garden perspective, the railway features miniature plantings such as Juniper Nana and Iris Reticulata. The train is bordered along the woodland with native shrubs and trees, including sourwood, farkleberry, chokeberry, and oakleaf hydrangeas. For 2024 we have added a native perennial border planted with divisions and seedlings of Black Eyed Susans, Shasta Daisies, and Gomphrena.
